Overcomer pt 3 by Ps Larry Elliott

At Once

Numbers 13:30-31 NKJV “Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, “Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it.” But the men who had gone up with him said, “We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we.””

Be Quite (hasaw):- to hush or hold your peace

Psalms 46:10-11 NKJV “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! The Lord of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah”

James 3:2 NKJV “For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body.”

James 3:7-10 NKJV “For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind. But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God. Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so.”

At Once (awlaw):- to ascend and speaks literally & figuratively to arise, climb or to break (to break free)

Isaiah 60:1-2 NKJV Arise, shine; For your light has come! And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you. For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, And deep darkness the people; But the Lord will arise over you, And His glory will be seen upon you.”

  • Stand up and set on fire
  • ARISE – change your posture and your position

YOU ARE Well able to overcome it

Revelation 1:1-3 NKJV “The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants— things which must shortly take place. And He sent and signified it by His angel to His servant John, who bore witness to the word of God, and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, to all things that he saw. Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near.”

  • Explain these VERSES in context to OVERCOMING!

Revelation 1:5-6 NKJV “and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth. To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood, and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.”

  • FOCUS on His FAITHFULNESS not your ability or lack of it!
  • You are already a King & a Priest start to Believe it, Say it & Walk in it!

TALK ABOUT THE SEVEN CHURCHES ANB THE PATTERN THAT UNFOLDS:

To the Pastor (congregation)

  1. Commendation (you are doing this well, keep it up)
  2. Correction ( you are not doing this well and it’s gonna be problematic for you)
  3. Call (if you listen to the Holy Spirit and if you will OVERCOME)
  4. Compensation (I will reward you handsomely, you will be blessed)

SO DECIDING TODAY TO BE AN OVERCOMER IS A VERY IMPORTANT AND POWERFUL THING TO DO!

In CHRIST, I’M ALWAYS BIGGER Than My situation!

God doesn’t create anyone without putting something significant inside.

So since you became born again the enemy works overtime trying to convince you that you’re not enough.

What you have may look insignificant, like it’s not enough, but when God breathes on Something, it will become more than enough.

Mark 10:27 NKJV “But Jesus looked at them and said, “With men it is impossible, but not with God; for with God all things are possible.””

  • The ten spies thought the giants in the land were too big to kill, but Joshua and Caleb saw the same giants and been filled with FAITH decided they were too big to miss.

What does an NT OVERCOMER LOOK LIKE!

I Timothy 4:15-16 NKJV “Meditate on these things; give yourself entirely to them, that your progress may be evident to all. Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you.”

  • No where does the Bible say it’s gonna be easy or that there would be no opposition, actually to the contrary.
  • Taking God at His Word means receiving His Grace to align your mouth, attitude and actions IN FAITH!
  • Joshua and Caleb were the only two men of that generation that overcame the obstacles and stepped into what God had PROMISED!

I Timothy 4:12-14 NKJV “Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity. Till I come, give attention to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy with the laying on of the hands of the eldership.”

Paul says to Timothy whether you are doing well or facing challenges, keep these Godly Values in front of you!

Having good strong values helps tremendously to stay positive and in Faith, it stabilises your emotions and helps you persevere, we don’t deny the existence of difficulty; BUT we believe God is greater than our difficulties.

Believing in God WILL cause us to win any battle we face.

THATS WHY AS A CHURCH:

We have a VISION

We have a MISSION

AND OVER THE YEARS WE HAVE ESTABLISHED 5 VALUES WE WANT TO LIVE BY:

– Service, Excellence, Bible based, Growth, Love

GROWTH

One of the key ways to love as an overcomer is to keep GROWING! which means we need to be teachable and humble do that we learn from wha tee are going through!

Sometime God will “disrupt” our lives to help us out of a rut or make us strong for what’s ahead! Toughen Up (it’s time to toughen up buttercup)

Judges 3:1-2 NLT “These are the nations that the Lord left in the land to test those Israelites who had not experienced the wars of Canaan. He did this to teach warfare to generations of Israelites who had no experience in battle.”

Joshua died, the Israelites were settled in the Promised Land, living their dream. God could have had Joshua and the previous generation drive out all the opposing enemy nations, but He purposefully left some nations there to teach them warfare. Without this problem, the new generation of Israelites would have eventually faced armies and been defeated. They didn’t have the experience, the strength, or the fortitude to overcome. God had to toughen them up. He left obstacles on purpose.

If God made everything easy for us, we wouldn’t be ready for where we’re going. God has amazing things in your future, things you’ve never imagined, but to get there you’re going to have to defeat some powerful giants, overcome some big obstacles, and outlast some formidable opposition. It’s not going to happen if you’re weak, disappointed, and bitter. Instead of complaining about what’s not turning around, see it as an opportunity to develop your faith. Don’t just go through it, grow through it. God’s getting you prepared. It’s serving His plan.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You purposefully allow obstacles and problems to come against me for my own good. Thank You that You are building strength and fortitude in me to prepare me for the future. I believe that it is serving Your plan as I walk through it and grow through it. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Aim for Excellence

Philippians 1:9-10 TPT “I continue to pray for your love to grow and increase beyond measure, bringing you into the rich revelation of spiritual insight in all things. This will enable you to choose the most excellent way of all —becoming pure and without offense until the unveiling of Christ.”

For many people, mediocrity is the norm; they do as little as they possibly can to just get by.

But God has called us to be His representatives, to be people of excellence and integrity. How you live, how you conduct your business and do your work, is all a reflection on our God. Any hint of compromise or mediocrity will taint our greatest victories or our grandest achievements as well as keep us from God’s best.

When you have an excellent spirit, it shows up in the quality of everything you do and the attitude with which you do it. The Scripture says that whatever you do, you should give your best effort and do it as if you are doing it for God. You go the extra mile to do what’s right, and anything less will cause you to be unhappy. You keep your word even when it’s difficult. You give your employer a full day’s work and don’t call in sick when you’re not. Start aiming for excellence in everything you do.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for calling me to live a life of excellence and integrity and for the privilege of representing You to my loved ones and friends. Thank You that I can dedicate every area of my life to You and always be my best. I want excellence to flow out of my heart of love for You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Why God wants you to live as an OVERCOMER:

Ephesians 3:16 (NLTSE) I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit.

Ephesians 3:20-21 (NLTSE) “Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen.”
