What kind of soil are you?

WHAT KIND OF SOIL ARE YOU?

What is soil?

Soil provides the structural support to plants it is also their source of nutrients.

Fun fact about seeds is that they remain dormant until conditions are favourable for germination

This is not going to be science lesson I promise, im just wanting us to visualize and think about what soil and seeds are   before I go over the message for todays bible study.

What soil are you.?

Let us look at Mathew 13 v 1 to verse 29, where Jesus speaks about the parable on understanding spiritual truths.

Matthew 13:1-29 NKJV “On the same day Jesus went out of the house and sat by the sea. And great multitudes were gathered together to Him, so that He got into a boat and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore. Then He spoke many things to them in parables, saying: “Behold, a sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seed fell by the wayside; and the birds came and devoured them. Some fell on stony places, where they did not have much earth; and they immediately sprang up because they had no depth of earth. But when the sun was up they were scorched, and because they had no root they withered away. And some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up and choked them. But others fell on good ground and yielded a crop: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. He who has ears to hear, let him hear!” And the disciples came and said to Him, “Why do You speak to them in parables?” He answered and said to them, “Because it has been given to you to know the [a]mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given. For whoever has, to him more will be given, and he will have abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him. 1Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. And in them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled, which says:‘Hearing you will hear and shall not understand, And seeing you will see and not perceive; For the hearts of this people have grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing, And their eyes they have closed, Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn,
So that I [b]should heal them.’ But blessed are your eyes for they see, and your ears for they hear; for assuredly, I say to you that many prophets and righteous men desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it. “Therefore hear the parable of the sower: When anyone hears the word of the kingdom, and does not understand it, then the wicked one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is he who received seed by the wayside. But he who received the seed on stony places, this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; yet he has no root in himself, but endures only for a while. For when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles. Now he who received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word, and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful. But he who received seed on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.” Another parable He put forth to them, saying: “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field; but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat and went his way. But when the grain had sprouted and produced a crop, then the tares also appeared. So the servants of the owner came and said to him, ‘Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have tares?’ He said to them, ‘An enemy has done this.’ The servants said to him, ‘Do you want us then to go and gather them up?’ But he said, ‘No, lest while you gather up the tares you also uproot the wheat with them.”

That same day, Jesus went out of the house and was sitting beside the sea. But such great crowds gathered about him, and he got into a boat and remained sitting there, while all the multitude stood on the shore.

And HE told them many things in parables, saying a sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seeds fell by the roadside, and the birds came and ate them up.

And as he sowed some  seeds fell on rocky ground, where they had not much soil, and at once they sprung up because they had no depth of soil. But when the sun rose, they were scorched, and because they had no root, they dried up and withered away.

Other seeds fell among the thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them out.

Other seeds fell on good soil and yielded grain some 100 times and some as was sown, some 60, some as much and some 30.

He who has ears to hear, Let him be listening, and let him consider and perceive and comprehend by hearing.

Then the disciples came to him and said, Why do you speak to them in parables?

And he replied to them. To you it has been given to know the secrets and mysteries of the Kingdom of heaven.

But to them it has not been given. For whoever has spiritual. Knowledge. To him will more be given, and he will be furnished richly, so that he will have abundance, but from him who has not. Even what he has will be taken away.

This is the reason that I speak to them in parables, because having the power of seeing they do not see, and having the power of hearing, they do not hear, nor do they grasp and understand.

When we attend church on Sunday, our pastor is the farmer that sows the Word  and our hearts and minds is the soil. It all starts in the mind. Our bodies take instruction from our minds. Our attitudes take instruction from our minds Amen.

So our hearts and minds are the soil .

In the passage of scripture we just read in Mathew 13 from verse 4-9 reference is made by Jesus to the types of conditions for the seeds to take root.

One surface was on the footpath and the birds came and ate it. Some seeds fell on rocky areas. The seeds took root, but were quickly destroyed because they weren’t firmly planted in good soil . The seeds that fell on the fertile ground produced a crop that was 30, 60 an even 100 times as much as had been planted.

When we get taught the Word on a Sunday, do we forget everything on the Monday and the first thing that offends us , do we spiral  out of control? Just like the seeds scattered on the footpath the birds came and ate it?

The seeds that fell on the rocky surface soon sprouted, then wilted with the hot sun. Without faith, it is impossible to please God. We can’t just be hearers of the word. We have to be doers of the word. For example, when you get hit by lifes, obstacles. Do you declare scripture over your problem, ? Or do we wilt away by the hot sun of trials and tribulations Or do you believe what God says that we must be of good cheer because HE has overcome the world.

Isyour roots firmly plantedin good soil? Or can they get easily choked by weeds? Weeds being troubles of this world.

And there were seeds that fell on fertile soil that yielded A crop that was 30,60 and even 100 times as much that was planted.

In Jeremiah 17 v 7-8 NIV. Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes. Its leaves are always green. It has no worries In times of a drought, And never fails to bear fruit.

We all can be like this tree planted by the water, our leaves can always be green, we can have no worries in times of drought but it will take effort on our part. Jesus spoke in parables, HE didn’t spoon-feed the people. We have to diligently seek HIM in order to hear and see and be firmly rooted.
