Joshua 3:5 NKJV ”And Joshua said to the people, “Sanctify yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do wonders among you.”“

Sanctify: qâdash:

– to prepare or dedicate.

– to be set apart or keep oneself separate for something special.

– to be Holy.

Wonders: pâlâ’

– to be separated or distinguished

– to accomplish great, difficult or wonderful things (to be hidden)

– to perform or do miracles.

  • What’s vital to understand in the New Covenant, we don’t do the Sanctifying, we do the APPLYING

I Corinthians 1:30-31 NKJV ”But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God—and righteousness and sanctification and redemption— that, as it is written, “He who glories, let him glory in the Lord.”

We have to BELIEVE IT, RECEIVE IT AND APPLY IT!

Hebrews 10:9-10 NKJV ”then He said, “Behold, I have come to do Your will, O God.” He takes away the first that He may establish the second. By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.“

Hebrews 10:12-14 NKJV ”But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God, from that time waiting till His enemies are made His footstool. For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.“

Sanctified:

Merriam-Webster: describes sanctification as “the state of growing in divine grace as a result of Christian commitment after conversion.”

Sanctified / hagiazō (Thayer):

  • to render or acknowledge, or to hallow (looking towards something or someone)

II Timothy 2:1 NKJV ”You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.“

II Peter 3:18 NKJV ”but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.“

2) to separate from profane things and dedicate to God (taking daily action practically)

  1. consecrate things to God
  2. dedicate people to God

3) to purify (engaging spiritually and mentally)

  1. to cleanse externally
  2. to purify internally by renewing of the soul

II Corinthians 7:1 NKJVTherefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.“
