Legacy Builders #5: The Greatest Helper

Legacy Builders - The Greatest Helper

Walk-in-Gods-Abundance

The greatest helper was tangibly among us on Sunday. Before the preaching, we stood hand-in-hand across the room — husbands and wives, families and friends — and we prayed in the Spirit with one voice for our homes, our community, and our nation.

“Hallelujah!” rose over the worship as we agreed together, believing that God is at work in a praying people. In that moment of unity and surrender, the atmosphere shifted. We declared the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living and asked Him to break every plan of the enemy.

Hearts softened. Faith stirred. The soil of our lives was turned so the seed of the Word could take root.

That’s how the Holy Spirit, our greatest helper, prepares us to walk out the week with courage and power.

The Greatest Helper: Walk in the Spirit

Jesus promised real peace in a troubled world and showed us where to find it—John 16:33 “be courageous… I have conquered the world”. That courage grows as we listen to the Holy Spirit and walk in the Spirit (Galatians 5:16 “you shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh”).

In John 14:26–27, Jesus introduces the Spirit as our Helper—Teacher, Reminder, and the Giver of peace. He is paraklētos: intercessor, consoler, advocate, and standby—the greatest helper sent to assist you in everything. John 15:26 adds that He testifies of Jesus, keeping our lives centred on Christ.

From the start of Jesus’ ministry, we see the “dove on the Lamb”—the Spirit resting and remaining on Jesus. That same Spirit empowers believers today.

What Silences the Helper—and How to Respond

Ps Larry reminded us there are attitudes that limit the Spirit’s operation in our lives:

  • Grieving the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 4:30)—through sin, disobedience, and corrupt talk. We put it off by walking in kindness, forgiveness, and love.
  • Quenching the Spirit (1 Thessalonians 5:19)—through unbelief or neglect. We keep the flame bright by rejoicing, praying, giving thanks, and practising His presence.
  • Resisting the Spirit (Acts 7:51)—by opposing His guidance and conviction. A soft, responsive heart keeps us aligned.

Guard your heart against offence too—John 16 opens with that warning. Offence is a trap (skandalon) that derails destiny. Choose forgiveness quickly.

Three Results Only the Spirit Produces

The Spirit forms Christ in us—not by human strength or cleverness but by God’s power: Zechariah 4:6 “Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit.”

Ps Larry Elliott

1) Power. Acts 1:8 “You shall receive power… and be My witnesses.” This is supernatural enablement to do what you could never do alone—exalting Jesus, bringing transformation, and giving wisdom for marriage, parenting, and work.

2) Love. Romans 5:5 “God’s love poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit.” You don’t lack love; you access love. Ask the Spirit to help you release what’s already been poured into you.

3) Sound Mind. 2 Timothy 1:7 describes a Spirit-given self-control and steadiness. As Romans 12:2 says, renewing your thinking brings transformation and discernment of God’s will.

A practical sign you’re staying full? Ephesians 5:18–19be filled with the Spirit… speaking in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, with a thankful melody flowing.

Legacy Builders in Action

We are Legacy Builders, not scatterers. Builders stay connected to the Vine and bear much fruit (John 15:7–8). The Spirit is the sole administrator of Heaven’s resources—so invite Him daily.

If Sunday’s worship stirred your heart, keep that river flowing this week. Don’t become a “swamp”; let the Spirit wash you as you worship and pray with others.

Pray in the Spirit

Spiritual Crime Prevention

As a church, we’re partnering in Spiritual Crime Prevention—adopting local police stations in prayer and ministry. We believe sustained intercession changes atmospheres and serves those who serve us.

Pastor Bert’s teaching on the Baptism in the Holy Spirit

If you’re exploring the baptism in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues, we’ve linked Pastor Bert’s clear, practical teaching. Set aside 15 minutes—worship, pray in the Spirit, and let God refresh you.

Take It Home This Week

  1. Practise His presence daily. Take three moments a day to acknowledge the Spirit: “Holy Spirit, You are my greatest helper. Lead me today.”
  2. Choose soft-heartedness. Refuse offence. Forgive quickly. Keep short accounts. (John 16, don’t be offended).
  3. Stay filled. Sing, give thanks, and speak life over others (Ephesians 5:18–19).
  4. Serve and build. Explore our Spiritual Builder pathway to take your next step as a disciple.
  5. Share Jesus. If you or a friend is ready to surrender to Christ, pray the salvation prayer and let us know—we want to walk with you.
