Growing into Legacy | The Anointing

Growing into Legacy - The Anointing

Family, thank you for leaning in on Sunday. I loved the sense that God wasn’t just visiting us, He was forming us. Our series is called Growing into Legacy, and this first message on The Anointing is really the doorway. The Anointing isn’t a spiritual trick or a quick fix; it’s the Holy Spirit actively at work in ordinary people like us, so that what God started, we actually finish — by His power, not ours.

John says it beautifully: “The wonderful anointing… lives in you… His anointing teaches you… so remain in Him.” (1 John 2:27

If you remember one thing, let it be this: you are anointed, because the Holy Spirit lives in you. The anointing will never pull you away from Scripture or puff you up; it will anchor you in truth, keep you teachable, and help you discern Jesus clearly. So we remain — stay close, keep our hearts soft, and we let Him lead.

Zechariah reminds us “Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit.” Mountains that felt immovable begin to crumble when the oil flows — projects get finished, faith gets up again, families heal, and purpose gets feet. If you’ve been staring at a “mighty mountain”, speak grace to it and keep moving. God’s not done; He’s helping you to finish.

The anointing - a drop of oil on orange

A gentle, practical word to our house

Here’s where the Lord pressed us: the anointing isn’t a shortcut. Many of us carry oil, but we leak when there’s no structure. So, yes — pray hard; and also add order. The anointing empowers what discipline sustains. If your days are chaotic, ask the Spirit to help you shape a simple rhythm so grace can carry you further. (Proverbs 25:28)

Keep growing — spirit, soul, body. Even Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and people (Luke 2:52). Don’t plateau. Read again, ask again, try again. Growth keeps the oil fresh.

Let God restore the tender places. Unhealed pain clogs the flow; bitterness quietly hardens the heart. Come back into His presence, let Scripture speak, and forgive quickly. Before we ask for “more anointing,” let’s ask for clean wells. (Hebrews 12:15)

Walk in wisdom. Steward money, time and relationships well. The Spirit doesn’t make us careless; He makes us accurate. Sometimes the most anointed thing you can do is sharpen the axe, pay what you owe, plan, and keep good company. (Luke 16:11–12; Ecclesiastes 10:10; Proverbs 11:14)

The secret place

And guard the secret place. Yesterday’s oil won’t carry today’s battles. Steal a moment with the Father—even if it’s the most private room you can find—and you’ll find He’s already there. (Matthew 6:6)

Finally, fight the right battles. Some fights are not your assignment; some you must not avoid. Obedience aligns the flow of the anointing. (2 Samuel 21:15)

A word of courage

If you’ve been running hard but feel stuck, hear this with love: “Not by might.” The Lord is not asking you to be superhuman; He’s inviting you to stay connected, be consistent, and let the oil do what only He can do.

  • Keep your character.
  • Keep your yes.
  • Keep your eyes on Jesus.

The doors He opens, character keeps open. (Proverbs 11:3)

Upcoming Events (bring a friend)

We begin Navigating Through Grief Together (Mon, 18:00, Coffee Bar). If this season is tender, you’re not alone — come find language, Scripture, and safe people for the journey.

Our Ladies’ Gathering meets Wed 26 Nov, 09:00: bring a plate and your best laugh. Men’s Coffee Club closes the year Fri 28 Nov, 05:00–06:00 with Sunrise Worship at the Whale Deck.

Before the city wakes, we’ll gather on the whale deck by the sea. As first light breaks over the water, we’ll lift our voices and let the roar of the waves carry our praise. Expect men standing shoulder to shoulder, inviting the Spirit to breathe on our homes and callings. Bring a jacket, a mate, and a heart ready to meet with God.

Save the date: Year-End Celebration Fri 12 Dec (evening) — register your “tribe,” decorate your table, win a prize, and end the year with joy.

Suggestions for cell groups this week

Open with 1 John 2:27 and ask: where am I remaining in Him, and where have I drifted into mere reasoning? Pray over one “mountain” and speak grace to it from Zechariah 4:6–9

Finish by committing to one small act of discipline that will help the oil flow this week.

If you’re new or need prayer, we’d love to walk with you. Reach out on our Contact page and we’ll help you take your next step.

Prayer for this week

Lord Jesus,

Thank You for the anointing. Teach us to remain in You.

Heal what’s sore, sharpen what’s dull, realign what’s busy, and give us wisdom for what’s ahead.

By Your Spirit, help us finish what You started — in our homes, our church, and our South Coast community.

Amen.
