16 June marks Youth Day, a time when we remember the sacrifice of young South Africans and celebrate their vibrant spirit. Today, we join Rhema South Coast Family Church in honouring our youth and their bright future.
Moreover, we extend (a bit late but heartfelt) Father’s Day wishes to Pastor Larry, our spiritual father, whose guidance blesses us weekly.
This Sunday, our children wowed us with an energetic dance and a touching ukulele solo—proof that God’s promise shines through every generation. Now, let’s look into Pastor Ben’s message on “Godly Peace,” and learn how to claim this inheritance… and live it out daily.
Why Godly Peace Matters
First, consider that the world offers a superficial calm. In contrast, God’s peace—Shalom—brings true wholeness.
When we align our will with His, we experience a peace that stands firm regardless of circumstances. Consequently, this peace empowers us to make wise decisions, face challenges without fear and maintain harmony in relationships.
Defining Godly Peace vs. Worldly Peace
Scripture tells us, “My peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives” (John 14:27).
Here, Jesus highlights a promise of peace that transcends human understanding. Worldly peace depends on circumstances: a quiet room or an absence of conflict. However, godly peace springs from our faith in Christ and the Holy Spirit’s presence.
This means that even amid life’s storms, we can rest in His unchanging care.
Biblical Foundations of Peace
We see Shalom first in Genesis 15:15, where God promises Abraham, “You shall go to your fathers in peace.”
Likewise, the angel greets Gideon with “Yahweh Shalom,” and Gideon in turn builds an altar to honour the Lord’s peace. Moreover, Mark 5:34 records Jesus saying, “Your faith has made you well; go in peace.”
Each example teaches us that encountering God produces a deep, settling calm that no trial can steal.
The Pattern of Peace | Five Key Steps
Pastor Ben outlined a clear pattern to help us live in godly peace.
Let’s explore these five points, and then see how we can apply them in our daily walk.
-
Trust and Surrender
“The Lord will be a refuge for the oppressed… those who know your name will put their trust in you” (Psalm 9:9–10). When we surrender control, anxiety fades and God’s plans shine through. Therefore, choose daily to trust His timing—even when you can’t see the full picture.
-
Contentment
“The fear of the Lord leads to life; and he who has it will abide in satisfaction” (Proverbs 19:23). Instead of measuring success by what we lack, we cultivate gratitude for what God has already given. Consequently, contentment becomes our shield against discontent.
- Positive Mindset
Philippians 4:8 urges us to focus on “whatever things are true… noble… pure… praiseworthy.” By filtering our thoughts through Scripture, we train our minds to spot God’s goodness in every situation. As a result, hope and joy flourish in our hearts.
-
Grace and Favor
Acts 20:32 speaks of “the word of His grace… able to build you up.” When we rest in God’s unmerited favour, doors open where none existed. Accordingly, let His grace shape your relationships—offering forgiveness and extending kindness.
-
Spiritual Abundance
Romans 5:1 declares, “We have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” This peace serves as a gateway to spiritual gifts—wisdom, encouragement and deeper faith. Ultimately, as we grow spiritually, we bear fruit that blesses every area of life.
Putting Godly Peace into Practice
Now, how do we turn these truths into habits?
Firstly, start each morning with Philippians 4:6–7 in prayer: “Do not be anxious… by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God… will guard your hearts.”
Next, journal one thing you trust God for each day. Then, write down at least two blessings you notice—big or small. Over time, this simple routine rewires our hearts to live from a place of peace.
Furthermore, lean on community. Join a small group at Rhema South Coast to share struggles and victories. If you’re new to faith, begin your journey by praying the salvation prayer and experiencing God’s life‑changing peace. Then, explore more on God’s promise of peace through our God’s Promise series.

Excitingly, we’re gearing up for a new building launch soon. As this space grows, may it become a beacon of Shalom, welcoming every soul into God’s rest. Meanwhile, catch the full message from Pastor Ben—and the entire “The Pattern” series—on YouTube or our website.
Trust, Surrender and Prayer for Godly Peace
In summary, godly peace isn’t a fleeting feeling; it’s our inheritance in Christ, secured by His death and resurrection. When we trust, surrender, and cultivate contentment, we unlock a peace that transcends trials.
Let’s close with a prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for being our Prince of Peace. As we trust and surrender, fill us with Your Shalom. Help us live daily in contentment, transform our minds, and walk in spiritual abundance. May Your peace guard our hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Amen.
Finally, remember: no matter what life throws, God’s peace stands firm. So rest in that promise today, and allow Shalom to flow through you—bringing transformation to your home, community and beyond.
