Doing Is Going | The Simple Truth About Following Jesus

Doing is Going - Ps Larry Elliott

This past Sunday at 3C South Coast, Ps Larry Elliott continued the Go! series with a powerful message titled Doing is Going. The heart of the message was simple but challenging: following Jesus is not just about hearing His Word — it is about doing it.

Jesus addressed this directly: “But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say?” (Luke 6:46). The question cuts straight to the core of discipleship. If Jesus is truly Lord, then obedience must follow.

Ps Larry reminded the church that spiritual growth is not measured by how much we know but by how much we apply. When believers hear the Word yet fail to act on it, they can feel busy spiritually… but remain stuck.

In other words, if we are not doing the Word, we are not actually going anywhere.

The Foundation That Determines Everything

Jesus illustrated obedience through a story about foundations.

“He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock…” (Luke 6:48)

Two houses may appear identical on the outside. However, their survival depends on what lies beneath. One house stands firm during the storm because it is built on rock. The other collapses because it lacks a solid foundation.

To bring this idea to life, Ps Larry referred to the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world. What many people do not realise is that the most critical part of that structure is not what rises into the sky — it is the massive foundation buried deep underground.

The same principle applies to our lives. What we build privately through obedience determines whether our lives stand strong when pressure comes. Sometimes obedience looks dramatic, but most of the time it looks like daily faithfulness — continuing when we feel tired, confused, or discouraged.

True discipleship means becoming more like Christ. It means loving God and loving people, not just in theory but through action.

Every Believer Is a Disciple

Jesus gave the church a clear command:

“Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations…” (Matthew 28:19).

This instruction was never reserved for a few leaders. It was given to every believer.

Go and make disciples of all nations

Ps Larry emphasised that when we understand that we belong to Jesus, three things begin to happen:

  • Our faith grows
  • We can submit to godly leadership
  • We recognise that Christ is our source

When this understanding settles in our hearts, discipleship begins to accelerate.

As Ps Benny Kareli says, “Discipleship is a process, not a church program. It’s relational, not an event and that’s what builds nations.”

This means disciples are not made through events alone. They are formed through relationships, mentorship, and consistent obedience.

Grace, Faith, and Good Works

Grace, Faith and Good works

Another key theme of the message was the relationship between grace, faith, and action.

“For by grace you have been saved through faith… For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works.” (Ephesians 2:8–10)

Grace is the foundation. Faith responds to that grace. Good works flow from both. Ps Larry explained that God has already prepared the path ahead for every believer. Our role is to walk in what He has prepared.

The greatest miracle is not healing or provision. It is the moment someone becomes born againFrom that moment forward, God begins shaping a life that reflects His purpose.

Aligning Your Life for a New Season

One of the most practical parts of the sermon focused on alignment.

Ps Larry compared misalignment in life to a car tyre that is out of alignment. When the wheels are not aligned properly, the tyres wear out quickly and the vehicle struggles to move smoothly.

In the same way, believers must align their lives with God’s purposes in this new season. He challenged the church to consider what they are building faith for:

  • Multitudes
  • Capacity
  • Increase
  • Finances

However, growth does not happen automatically. It requires three things:

Grow. You cannot make disciples if you are not growing yourself.
Strategy. Every believer needs a clear plan for spiritual growth.
Alignment. What is not aligned with God’s purpose will never become fruitful.

When we surrender fully to God, He can trust us with greater responsibility.

Baptism: Completely Immersed

Another powerful moment in the message focused on baptism.

Baptism symbolises complete immersion into the life of God — the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Completely immersed

Jesus humbled Himself and went to the cross so that we could be filled with the life of God. Through the Holy Spirit, believers receive the power to live the life they have been called to.

Ps César Castellanos captured this truth beautifully:

“Life only works when it is governed by the Holy Spirit. He guides, He teaches, He empowers—and without Him we cannot fulfil the purpose of God.”

Yet Ps Emma Claudia also gave a strong challenge:
“Don’t pray for power if you’re doing nothing with the power you already have.”

God did not call His people to be busy. He called them to be fruitful.

The Mission of God

The Bible tells one continuous story — from Genesis to Revelation — of God reconciling people back to Himself.

“Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation.” (2 Corinthians 5:18)

Every believer is part of this mission.

However, Ps Larry warned about a common misunderstanding in the church. Many people begin to treat church as a place designed primarily to meet their personal needs.

When that happens:

  • Attendance replaces obedience
  • Convenience replaces commitment
  • Consumption replaces commission

But the purpose of church is preparation. Worship, teaching, and fellowship equip believers for the mission. They are not the mission itself.

Training matters — but training only has value if we step onto the field and play the game.

Influence Makes You a Leader

Another important reminder was that every Christian is a leaderLeadership is not about titles or positions. It is about influence.

Your attitude shapes your home. Your words affect your workplace. Your example impacts your friends, classmates, and family members. Whether we realise it or not, someone is always watching how we live.

Jesus said:
“He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters abroad.” (Matthew 12:30)

Our lives will either draw people toward Christ or push them away. That is why the call remains clear: Go and make disciples.

  • Not to build a brand.
  • Not to impress people.
  • But to build lives that carry the message of Jesus.

A Quick Family Announcement

Before we wrap up, a reminder for the young people: the Y-Life Talent Show is coming up on 27 March at 18:00.

So if you can sing, dance, rap, juggle, or have a hidden talent that the world needs to see, now is your moment. Go ahead and register — and yes, brave parents are also welcome!

Keep Building

Ps Larry closed with a powerful challenge: be an altar builder, not just an altar visitorConsistency builds a life that lasts. What we do repeatedly shapes our future. Obedience today creates strength for tomorrow. So the question remains for every believer: What foundation are you building?

If you missed the start of the series, read more about it here.
