It’s Time to Walk in the Light : From Darkness to Destiny

Ps Ben Saayman Walk in the Light

To walk in the light is the most profound and life-altering journey we can ever go on as believers. It’s an action, a daily decision to move in the direction and destiny that Jesus has ordained for us.

This past Sunday, Ps Ben Saayman continued our Legacy Builder series with a powerful message that contrasted the two spiritual realms we navigate: darkness and light. He reminded us that our past doesn’t define our future. We were once darkness, but now, in the Lord, we are light. It’s a call to action for every single one of us, a reminder that our journey doesn’t end at salvation; that’s where it truly begins.

You Are Anointed and Appointed for More

Right at the start of the service, Ps Ben had us look to the person next to us and declare, “You are anointed,” followed by, “No, but you are also appointed”. Let that sink in for a moment. You aren’t just saved to sit on a Rhema South Coast Family Church chair!

You’ve been hand-picked by God, equipped with His Spirit, and given a divine purpose. Your place in heaven is booked! So, what’s left for us here on earth? The answer is simple and profound: we need to be legacy builders. Jesus saved you so that you can touch someone else’s life for Him.

This isn’t about waiting for a perfect moment or a grand sign. It’s about taking action now. For too long, the enemy’s tactic has been to numb us, to tell us to wait, that time will sort things out.

But Ps Ben made it clear: time doesn’t change anything; taking action does. So, the question we must all ask ourselves is, “What am I building today?”.

Understanding the Two Realms: Light vs. Night

To build a godly legacy, we must first understand the spiritual landscape. There are two opposing realms: darkness and light.

The Kingdom of Darkness

The Bible tells us that darkness represents sin. But it’s more than just a list of wrongdoings; sin creates confusion. It attacks our very core, separating us from our identity, our destiny, and ultimately, our legacy.

The devil, the father of lies, thrives in this confusion. His domain is darkness, and he uses it to wage war against us – not against flesh and blood, but against the spiritual hosts of wickedness.

The Kingdom of Light

On the other hand, God’s light represents holiness and truth. As Ps Larry has taught us, holiness is about being accurate. When you combine accuracy with the truth of God’s Word, you create a foundation that cannot be easily shaken.

1 John 1:5 states, “…God is light and in Him is no darkness at all”. His very nature is light, His domain is light, and the destiny He has for His children is light. We were delivered from the power of darkness and brought into the kingdom of His Son.

How to Stand Firm in the Light

So, how do we practically live this out? How do we fight a spiritual battle? Ps Ben gave us a powerful key: you don’t fight the enemy in his territory; you make him fight in yours. We establish our own domain—a Christ dominion—by putting godly principles in place.

Are you a person of honour, trust, integrity, truth, loyalty, and love?. These principles are not just nice character traits; they are our spiritual frontline. They are the standards we raise that guard us and our families.

As Ps Ben put it in his version of  Ephesians 6:12: “If you have godly principles set in place… you have set up a Christ dominion. Then there’s no power the enemy will have over your life…”. When we stand on these principles, we are standing on the authority we have through the blood of Christ.

This confidence comes from knowing who you are, and whose you are. A deep relationship with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit gives you a secure identity that the enemy cannot shake.

The Power of Exposure

Perhaps one of the most challenging yet liberating truths from Sunday’s message was the call to expose the darkness in our own lives. We often think of exposing darkness as calling out others, but that’s not it guys! The real power comes when we have the courage to bring our own hidden struggles into the light.

Anything you hide in darkness gives the enemy power over you. He is the “accuser of the brethren”, and he uses our secret sins as ammunition. However, the moment you expose those things (the anger, pride, fear); and bring them into the light through confession, the accuser is disarmed.

He can no longer hold it against you because you’ve already laid it bare before God. Shame may last for a moment, but the freedom you gain is eternal. You take that weapon right out of the enemy’s hands.

Your Call to Walk in the Light: Shine!

Living as children of light pleases God. Why? Because light gives:

  1. Life (John 1:4)
  2. Direction (Psalm 119:105)
  3. Truth (Ephesians 5:13)
  4. Joy (Psalm 89:15)
  5. Warmth and Love

This week, let’s take this powerful message and live it out. Your challenge is this: identify one area of darkness or confusion in your life. Don’t let it hide any longer. Bring it into the light. Confess it to God.

If you need to, share it with a trusted brother or sister in Christ. Let the light of His truth and grace bring freedom and healing. If you need someone to stand with you in prayer, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our team. You can find our details on the contact us page. Remember the wisdom Ps Larry shared about our helper in his sermon, “The Greatest Helper,” and allow the Holy Spirit to guide you. You are not just in the light; you are the light. It’s time to shine.

A Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank you for your Word that brings truth and revelation.

Thank you for calling us out of darkness and into your marvellous light.

Lord, give us the courage and boldness to expose any darkness hiding in our hearts so we can walk in true freedom. Help us to build our lives on godly principles and to be a shining light that leads others to you.

May our lives be a legacy of goodness, righteousness, and truth for your glory. Amen.
